Selecting a new Moodle Course Shell

In Moodle, new e-courses are designed using templates, which are commonly called "shells". Each new Moodle course you create will require its own shell, whether based on a previous course shell or on a pre-made template.

Instead of requesting a NEW course shell, you may want to consider resetting your existing course shell. For more information on this, please read our help centre article, "Should I ask for a new course shell, or reset my current one?"

If you're ready now, click below to use our online form to request a new Moodle Course Shell from DLSupport:

Select Your Moodle Course Shell Type

When you fill out the form to request a new Moodle shell, you must select from one of these types of course shells:

Blank Shell - A blank shell is just a blank page upon which you build your Moodle course from scratch. (A Discussion Forum is the only activity or resource that exists in a blank shell.)

Copy of an Existing Moodle Course - Select this if you have an existing course which contains content and formatting you wish to re-use.

Long Template - A Long Template includes standard content as a foundation for your course. Carefully formatted sample information provided has been carefully assembled to address issues common to distributed learning. The long template includes general information as well as formatted modules for 10 units of instruction however units can be added or removed as required.

Short Template - A Short Template includes the same general information as the long template, but does not provide any pre-formatted instructional units.

  • View the Short Template (NOTE: Moodle login and course template enrolment are required to view the template. The enrolment key is template)
