Curriculum Development at VCC is a collaborative and consultative process. The CID supports faculty in the design and development of courses and programs and provides guidance through the governance approval process as outlined in the Curriculum Development and Approval Process Policy. To ensure your curriculum meets VCC's quality standards, please consult with the Registrar's Office and the CID well ahead of your proposal submission date.

Changes to courses and programs, and the development of new courses and programs must receive governance approval. The type of curriculum development will determine the appropriate approval process:

Type of Curriculum Development Governance Approval Process
Minor revisions to existing course(s) or program Curriculum Committee approval

New course(s)

Major revisions to existing course(s) or program

Curriculum Committee recommendation to Education Council

Education Council approval

New programs and substantial revisions to existing programs*

*Substantial revisions to existing programs include significant qualitative and/or quantitative changes. Please consult your Dean to determine whether your curriculum development is in this category.

Curriculum Committee recommendation to Education Council

Education Council approval of curriculum and recommendation of implementation to Board of Governors

Finance and Audit Committee recommendation to Board of Governors

Board of Governors approval of implementation

The governance approval process for all curricula is set out in the steps below.
